3 Day Fire Fighting And Breathing Apparatus – MCA Accredited

This 3 day course is approved by the Maritime and Coastguard Agency (MCA) as meeting the requirements for mariners laid down in STCW 95, Regulation V1/1 Code Section A-V1/1 Paragraph 2.1.2. Successful completion of the course results in certification issued under the authority of the MCA.

The course includes:

  • The theory of combustion, methods of propagation and the extinguishing agents and methods.
  • The theory of respiration, breathing apparatus control procedures and how to work safely and effectively in hot and humid atmospheres.
  • Search and rescue procedures and fire suit effectiveness.
  • Elementary first aid.
  • All theory is enhanced by extensive practical exercises, involving live fire and smoke atmospheres, in a safe and supervised environment using Fire Security’s unique facilities.

4 Day Fire Fighting and Breathing Apparatus – MCA Accredited

This four day course is approved by the Maritime and Coastguard Agency (MCA) as meeting the requirements laid down STCW 95 Regulation Code Section A-V1/3. Successful completion of the course results in certification issued under the authority of the MCA.

The course includes all elements of the 3 day MCA Fire Fighting and Breathing Apparatus course, plus:

  • Command and Control theory and practical.

The course is therefore applicable for all personnel who will potentially be in a supervisory role during fire fighting scenarios.

Crisis Management and Human Behaviour

This one-day course is approved by the Maritime and Coastguard Agency (MCA) as meeting the mandatory training requirement for senior officers and key personnel on ships carrying passengers, as specified in the IMO Standards for Training, Certification and Watchkeeping (STCW 95) Code Sections A-V/2 & 3 paragraphs 1, 3 and 5.

The course also has application in other maritime sectors, such as port passenger terminal personnel, river cruising vessels and offshore platforms. Additionally, the course would also be appropriate for land-based personnel in, for example, leisure centres, shopping centres etc.

The course includes:

  • Human behaviour and responses during a crisis.
  • Crisis leadership, command and communications.
  • Decision making and control in crisis situations.
  • Optimisation of resources during a crisis.
  • Understanding and implementing emergency plans.
  • Crowd management.
