Fire Fighting


3 Day Fire Fighting and Breathing Apparatus – MCA Accredited

This 3 day course is approved by the Maritime and Coastguard Agency (MCA) as meeting the requirements for mariners laid down in STCW 95, Regulation V1/1 Code Section A-V1/1 Paragraph 2.1.2. Successful completion of the course results in certification issued under the authority of the MCA.

The course includes:

  • The theory of combustion, methods of propagation and the extinguishing agents and methods.
  • The theory of respiration, breathing apparatus control procedures and how to work safely and effectively in hot and humid atmospheres.
  • Search and rescue procedures and fire suit effectiveness.
  • Elementary first aid.
  • All theory is enhanced by extensive practical exercises, involving live fire and smoke atmospheres, in a safe and supervised environment using Fire Security’s unique facilities.

4 Day Fire Fighting and Breathing Apparatus – MCA Accredited

This four day course is approved by the Maritime and Coastguard Agency (MCA) as meeting the requirements laid down STCW 95 Regulation Code Section A-V1/3. Successful completion of the course results in certification issued under the authority of the MCA.

The course includes all elements of the 3 day MCA Fire Fighting and Breathing Apparatus course, plus:

  • Command and Control theory and practical

The course is therefore applicable for all personnel who will potentially be in a supervisory role during fire fighting scenarios.

Fire Safety Awareness Course

This 3 hour course is designed to provide an understanding in basic fire awareness and is appropriate for anyone employed in any environment where there is a chance of an outbreak of fire. This training course is delivered in accordance with the new Fire Safety Law 2005 requirements and assists any employer in achieving compliance with that law.

The course includes theory and practical sessions where attendees acquire experience in the use of fire extinguishers. The course can be delivered here at Fire Security, or at your premises if more convenient.

The Course includes:

  • How to identify the correct extinguisher, including the colour classifications.
  • How to select the correct extinguisher, dependent on the classification of fire, and use it safely.
  • Practical, hand on experience in the use of live extinguishers in a safe and controlled environment.

Successful completion of this course will result in a certificate of competence.

Fire Warden Training

This 4 hour course details the duties and responsibilities of a fire warden, and an introduction to the nature and causes of fire, in addition to all the competencies trained in the Fire Awareness training course. This training course is delivered in accordance with the new Fire Safety Law 2005 requirements and assists any employer in achieving compliance with that law.

The course can be conducted here at Fire Security or, if more convenient, at your premises, and can be combined with the Fire Awareness course, as an extension to that course for your appropriate personnel. The course is aimed at supervisory staff and any persons nominated to be responsible for evacuation and use of portable fire fighting equipment.

The course includes:

  • The theory of fire and the triangle of combustion.
  • Methods of fire spread and extinction.
  • Practical, hands on experience in the use of fire extinguishers in a safe and controlled environment.
  • The evacuation of a building.
